I took charge as the Principal of Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara  on the 1st of April 2009 and  I consider this opportunity a great privilege. As a Pre-degree Student I entered the portas of this prestigious  institution in 1971. I joined the faculty of  this College in 1978. Hence I was fortunate to associate with the former Principals, Rev. Prof. K.C.Mathew, Prof. M.K. Cherian, Prof. Mammen Varkey, Prof. Victor Sam, and Prof. Koshy Ninan. I thank God for the leadership and vision of the former Principals and their labour  to make this institution a centre of excellence in the field of higher education.

Our vision is to be a dynamic College that produces outstanding Godly young people who will have a lasting and positive impact on our community, the country and the nation. The motto of Bishop Moore College is ‘Truth Shall Make you free’.

I believe that the choices we make, the kindness we extend, the ways we apply our minds and our hearts, do make a difference in our world. We may not always see it, but each drop contributed  to a larger pool and its impact, while not always apparent, is real nonetheless. Let  your dreams have a tangible impact on our world. If you do, eventually our world will be transformed  by  kindness and wisdom. If we have a vision of what this world will look like, we will  know where  to go. It is up to you to help us get  there.

To effect positive changes in our world you will have to  use your minds and your hearts -- and you are fortunate to have fertile minds and caring hearts. Hopefully your tenure at Bishop Moore College has made you brighter people and also better people. I believe it has. And with your hearts and your minds I know you will make a difference.

The Neem, the Acacia and the Silk Cotton Tree, once had a conversation among themselves. The Acacia moaned about how ugly, it was with its thorny spikes.. It felt it was ugly, bore no flowers and was worthless. According to it, the Neem tree was so fortunate, its fruit was loved by birds and human beings, it had healing properties, it was invaluable to creation. The Neem tree was wise and tried to make it realize its self worth - it told the sad Acacia, that it was so useful to sparrows, who built their nests in its branches. The thorns it disliked actually protected them, its leaves were their food, camels relished its juice, it was truly great. But it was hard to convince the Acacia.
The Silk Cotton Tree, felt even worse than the Acacia — its appearance was so unattractive with its dark branches. Its flowers bloomed momentarily, the summer breezes blowing away the silky blooms. At least, the Acacia was home to the weaklings. The silk cotton had no right to live, it was useless. Again the Neem tree reminded it of its good qualities, - ‘You are an artist’s inspiration and a child’s delight, your bare arms raised to the sky are a prayer and an invocation to the Almighty.’

Mother Earth, who was hearing this conversation, spoke to them and said — ‘Each one of you is invaluable to me and an integral part of the great creation. Each one beautifies the world in its own way. Be yourself and play your part in the best possible way.‘

As the Principal of Bishop Moore College, my advice to you is to play your part  in the best possible way. I firmly believe in the power of the Almighty — He has sent us into this world with a purpose, he will see to it that we fulfill our purpose. We must strive and toil in the right direction, setting aside our petty egos. Happiness is more important than material gains.

"Each movement is a golden opportunity, an opportunity to learn, to give ,to help, to love and to live fully ".

Take the legacy of what you have learned at Bishop Moore College, carry it with you into the future.

                                                                       Prof  Dr. Mathew Koshy Punnackadu

                                                                           (Principal)
