The Department of Chemistry, started as a junior department in 1964 was upgraded as UG department in 1978. Became a PG Department in 1995 when the M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry was started. The Department has 10 permanent teachers, four having Ph.D., and the rest M.Phil.  The Department is now an approved research centre of University of Kerala and  three faculty members are research guides.  Faculty engaged in research projects funded by DST, DAAD, UGC and KSCSTE. Collaborative research programme with Technische Universitat, Germany.
